Yikes! Did Tigra spit in Bendis' coffee?
Now, as a service to his writing and for the sake of not making it look like a personal vendetta, here is the link to Marvel Comics' website with the tag Women. They have a full list of other female superheroes that the Hood can bitch slap at his leasure.
In fact, here's the whole Marvel Directory, a great list of characters from the entire Marvel Universe for him to use as an informant and to pump up Mr. Hood.
First time, shame on me. Second time, shame on you. Third time, just give it a rest.
At work, it's well known my bemoaning the beating of Tigra because (and get this) I like the character. Sure, I may not like what she's become, but I think the start of her story is an unplumbed goldmine of opportunity. It's also well know amongst my fellow employees that I fall asleep when ever Donna Troy is on panel. I think that her original story is awesome too (a reflection of the original Wonder Woman? That's cool!), just what she's become is so complicated and so, frankly, dull that I tend to flip through whatever book she's in that I'm reading at the moment. It's a trait I share wih my co-workers and it was posed to me if I would be so hands-in-the-air exasperated if it were Donna Troy getting put out like a bad cat.
And I'll admit, if Forerunner from Countdown punked her out to show how awesome Forerunner is against someone as well known and titanically powered as Donna Troy, well... yeah. I'd be pissed. One, because Forerunner looks like she took a wrong turn at World-of-Warcraft-Night-Elf Junction, but because established characters should have more crediblity thatn that. Sure, I may not like Donna Troy but you can't call it a comeback, she's been here for years. She's got cred and that has to be respected.
Speedball should have had some cred pre-Penance. Tigra should have some cred as an Avenger.
And Bendis should have some cred as the man who brought Ultimate Spider-Man to the heights of comic fandom.
The thing is, when the characters aren't given their due, it really doesn't make me want to give the writers any either. Just the facts.

Bendis is trying to make me feel bad that I buy anything he writes, isn’t he? And the only thing of his I buy is Ultimate Spidey, but even so, this makes me wonder why I support his work. I suppose it’s only a matter of time until Ultimate Tigra shows up, and gets played as a bigger joke than Millar made the “Defenders”.
Couldn’t Bendis just, you know, not write characters he seems to despise? If I was given an X-book in some insane universe where I was a good enough writer to merit that, I wouldn’t want Cyclops because I can’t stand him most times, and I know this, and I probably couldn’t do right by the character.
I know Yu said Tigra will have her moment against the Hood, but I really don’t know that I buy that, unless someone other than BMB is gonna be writing it.

Or even, you know, take it as a challenge, maybe make the character into someone you could like. If Cyclops is kind a dumb, well… write him better! If Tigra makes you wanna slap the crap out of her? CHANGE THE CHARACTER!
*sigh*
I’m in the same boat with you, sir, on Tigra’s moment in the sun. As Lenny Bruce once said, you can’t hit a hooker in the head and say I Love You.

Bendis, seems to be going out of his way to really lay it on thick. I wonder if we’ll get a redemption of Tigra moment out of this?
Marvel’s been on a fucking serious tear lately, trying to improve the C/D level heroes from the 70 and making us care about them.
The Emofication of Speedball is finally starting to Pay-off. Hercules has one of the best books out there. Iron Fist is on fucking fire. I don’t really think this is the end of the Tigra story. Bendis, rarely if ever just tears a character apart because he hates them.

Hate’s a strong word. And… as much as I want to, I know I can’t speak for what Bendis likes and dislikes. All I can go by is his writing and frankly, all of the examples are books that are written by other people. If there’s an example of Bendis taking a character to the mat like this and then redeeming them at the end, by all means! I’ll take everything back!
But… it’s just starting to repeat itself. I can’t say I have any confidence in a Tigra Redemption. I think she’s a visually appealing character with a ‘lame’ power that is used enough to make her credible to the Hood’s story.
If anything, I get the feeling that Spider-Woman’s going to take down the Hood…

Spider-Woman is out of team Noir Democrat Avengers, so unless she swoops in out of nowhere, I doubt it.
I have never seen Bendis take the shit out on a hero. The worst I seen is a hard luck villain like the shocker in Ultimate Spider-man. Bendis has a tendency to not even bother mentioning the guys that he hates. They don’t show up in a Bendis comic.
Yu right now only seems to be working for Bendis, and is reading advanced Bendis scripts. Marvel has started to lean over to these weird long three part character arcs for their characters, and outside of what the fuck happened on OMD/BND, most of them are slow progressions. Like in the case of Tony Stark, I don’t think the plan is to leave him as he is right now without giving him a huge redeeming moment, possibly in Secret Invasion.
I hate to tell people to wait and see, because their are huge faults with the Hood Storyline. I think I told you to do so last time. I think this week we’ll see some payoff on the Hood mid-card heel push. I have a general feeling that Tigra is either gonna be explained as a Skrull or she’ll get some moment of bad ass in SI.
It’s just really fucking weird that Tigra, who no one fucking used for like 10 years shows the fuck out of nowhere to be whipping post.
January 28th, 2008 - 15:07
Isn’t it weird? Considering, as you say, most of the older ’70s characters are coming out for a big push rather than a slow brutal beatdown? I mean, Spider-Woman would have blown up the Hood’s HQ by now while powering away in a speedboat.
The question is whether Bendis will turn this around in the end, it’s whether the sudden twist of Tigra-Skrull or Tigra-Bad-Ass is going to be worth it. Technically, she should be able to sniff out things that are.. ‘skrully’… the way Wolverine should, so I could see where he’s going with this, but after a year now, there’s still a lack of credibility.

Okay, so we finally got some closure on the Hood storyline and Tigra seems to be sick and tired of being sick and tired. I’m happy with some of the issue and the way it played out and not with others. It feels like thanks to Frank Cho, we got 2 tigra beat down scenes instead of one to stretch things out.
What do you think of everything?

Pedro, I think this is only the end of Act 2 in a three Act story, as far as Tigra and the Hood go. He smacked her around and humiliated her, she stood up for herself, and helped the New Avengers avoid total destruction. So Act 3 will be the final confrontation, when either Tigra gets really trashed, or the Hood finally goes to jail.
I’m still not convinced this story is a good thing for Tigra as a character, but I feel better about it than I did before I read through the Annual.
